While at Parsons, John studied contemporary art and was actively engaged in making photographs and videos that investigated storytelling. His visual work continues to explore many themes including sustainability, community, and public versus private space. After graduating, John moved to upstate New York to sharpen focus on his photographic projects. He began working as an artists’ assistant, helping to complete large scale projects destined for museum spaces. Working as an assistant has allowed him to learn skills in carpentry, ceramics, textiles, and instrument making, among many others, which have inspired his art practice extensively. John finds travel to be the best way to foster creativity through meeting people and exploring landscapes along the way. John currently directs our programs in Yellowstone, the Canadian Arctic, Croatia & Slovenia, Germany & Sweden, New York & Denmark, and the University Workshop at MIT. John loves hiking, running, and biking, and is excited to enjoy those pursuits after moving to Vermont this year.
